My eyes were totally glued to the screen this week. Amy finally admits to her parents that she is pregnant. At first her mom doesn't believe her, but then it slowly starts sinking in that her 15-year-old daughter is having a baby. At first her mom, Anne, feels a wide range of emotions; shock, disbelief, anger, and sadness. When it is revealed that Ashley has also known about the pregnancy the entire time, her mom is even angrier that she is the last one to know. Amy cries and tells her mom she doesn't think she handle being pregnant and having a baby, her mom tells her that she should weigh all her options, but it's obvious that her mom wants her to steer clear of abortion.
Anne decides to keep both girls home from school. Since Amy is now dating Ben, Anne just assumes that he is the father of her soon to be grandchild. Amy tells her mother about Ben's wishes to marry her. Anne does not think marriage would be a good idea. She also encourages Amy to tell her own father. When her father, George calls Amy is afraid to tell him so her mom, Anne, gets on the phone and breaks the news to him. George is not happy.
By now everyone at school as heard about Amy Juergen's pregnancy, and everyone knows that Ricky is the father. Amy's friends are worried when she does not show up at school and many people assume it is because she is getting an abortion that day. When Miss holier-than-thou Grace finds out Amy is considering an abortion she vows to try and stop it. Since Ricky is trying to get with Grace, he all of a sudden turns into a bible thumper, and he also vows to stop Amy from going through with an abortion.
