Michelle Williams, the husky-voiced member of the now defunct Destiny's Child, has some big footsteps to follow. She's the last of the three to release a pop album, having put out two successful gospel records and done her thing on Broadway as the star of Aida and The Color Purple. Meanwhile, Beyonce became one of the biggest stars in the world and Kelly Rowland blew up overseas, making Michelle the only one of the three (not to mention most of the other ex-DC members) to try to break into the pop world as a solo artist.
Now, Michelle is ready to shed the gospel influence and make her grand entrance in the pop world. And her third solo album, Unexpected, could not have had a more appropriate name. The record sounds intended to be played in the club, showing Michelle settling into a Euro-trance dance groove and cutting loose on this 12-track ride. Unexpected thrives off of its musical backbone, made up of synthetic beats and digitized instrumentation that pulse like a strobe light, all while Michelle gets sassy and sings as if the night will never end. Now that Michelle is breaking into the mainstream, she's poised to take the dance floor by storm with her electro gems and the exuberant freedom that comes with doing pop all on her own.
