Robin Thicke Exclusive Interview

The blue-eyed soul man is back.

Robin Thicke has had quite the career so far. While many of you may have only heard of him in the last couple of years based off the success of his album The Evolution of Robin Thicke, he's been in the music industry a lot longer than you'd think. His debut record, Cherry Blue Skies, was released under the name Thicke in 2002 and repackaged with two new songs in 2003 with the new title A Beautiful World. You probably wouldn't recognize him - instead of his smartly coiffed hairdo that he now sports, he had long scraggly locks that reached his shoulders.

All that changed in 2006 when he released Evolution, his smash sophomore album that featured a more suave Robin (he started to go by his full name) and some incredibly sultry blue-eyed soul. His singles "Lost Without U" and "Wanna Love U Girl" made a big splash on Top-40 radio, turning him into the mega star he initially set out to be. Now, Robin is back with a thumping new single "Magic" off his forthcoming album Something Else, which shows him taking his sound in a more upbeat and horn-based soul direction.

But of course, Robin is no stranger to soul as his albums are chockfull of syrupy R&B tracks. He doesn't keep it all for himself, though, having recently written for and contributed to new albums like Ashanti's The Declaration, 50 Cent's The Massacre and longtime collaborator Lil Wayne's The Carter III. Robin didn't ask anyone to return the favor on Something Else, making his third album an 11-track spotlight on only his individual talents.

Robin is about to head overseas, but he managed to take some time out to talk to Kiwibox Senior Editor Steven about his upcoming album. The phone line was a bit shoddy, but he still managed to give us the dirt on how he penned a track for Dreamgirls starlet Jennifer Hudson's upcoming debut, a sneak peek of some of the songs we can expect on Something Else and why he refrained from reeling in any guest stars for the record.
